Worthing — Handcrafted Oak & Custom Colour Kitchen

Project Job #2

Worthing — Handcrafted Oak & Custom Colour Kitchen

Traditional framed cabinetry in a custom-mixed colour, made a few miles from where it was fitted.

Worthing, West Sussex Oak veneer & tulipwood Approximately 6 weeks

The project

Handcrafted locally for a property in Worthing, this kitchen was designed to combine traditional framed cabinetry with the clean, understated finish of a contemporary bespoke interior.

Oak veneer was used extensively within the cabinetry, bringing the texture and unmistakable grain of natural timber into the construction. MDF provided a dimensionally stable foundation where appropriate, while the visible front framework was individually made from solid American tulipwood.

Tulipwood is particularly prized for painted furniture and cabinetry. Its close, consistent grain allows for exceptionally crisp joinery and a smooth painted surface, making it an ideal choice for the precisely fitted front frames used throughout this project.

The final colour was created using a custom Dulux paint mix, selected specifically for the kitchen. This allowed the cabinetry to sit naturally alongside the surrounding finishes and architectural details of the property rather than relying on an off-the-shelf kitchen colour.

Craftsmanship

How long it took, and why

Approximately four weeks of workshop time went into constructing the kitchen before installation began. Building the cabinetry in the workshop allows each element to be properly assembled, checked and prepared before arriving at the property.

Installation, adjustment and final painting then took place over approximately two weeks on site.

Particular care was given to maintaining consistent gaps, clean frame lines and a seamless relationship between adjoining cabinetry. The completed kitchen has the solidity and permanence expected of traditionally made furniture while retaining a refined, uncluttered appearance.
