Paying for it, without the small print
Staged payments, itemised quotes and finance options — set out plainly before you commit to anything.
How payment works
Staged, itemised, and never ahead of the work
A bespoke kitchen is one of the larger things most people buy for a house, and the payment structure should feel as considered as the joinery. Here is exactly how it runs.
Staged payments
Payment is split so that you are never significantly ahead of the work that has been done. A deposit secures your slot in the workshop diary and buys the materials for your specific kitchen. A stage payment falls due when making begins. The balance is paid on completion, after the walk-round and after any snags are sorted.
The exact split is set out in your written quote before you commit to anything.
What the quote includes
Quotes are itemised cabinet by cabinet, with painting, fitting and hardware shown separately. That is deliberate — it means you can see what an extra bank of pan drawers actually costs, or what taking out the pantry would save, and make the decision with real numbers rather than a haggle.
Finance
Finance options are available to help spread the cost of a kitchen over a longer period. Terms, rates and eligibility vary, so the sensible thing is to raise it at the design visit and Ollie will talk you through what is currently available and what it would mean in monthly terms for your project.
Please note: any credit agreement is between you and the finance provider, subject to status and affordability checks. Ollie's Handmade Kitchens is not a lender and does not give financial advice — always read the agreement and consider whether the repayments are affordable for you.
Ways to bring the number down
If the first quote is above where you wanted to be, there are usually honest options rather than corner-cutting ones. Keeping the existing layout avoids moving services. Painted MDF doors in place of solid timber saves money without hurting durability. Solid oak on the island only, with a hardwearing laminate or composite elsewhere, gets most of the effect for a fraction of the spend. Ollie will suggest these unprompted.
