Brighton — Bespoke Oak & Painted Kitchen

Project Job #1

Brighton — Bespoke Oak & Painted Kitchen

Oak veneer cabinetry and traditionally made tulipwood face frames, finished in a paint the client sourced themselves.

Brighton, East Sussex Oak veneer & tulipwood Approximately 6 weeks

The project

This Brighton kitchen was created as a completely bespoke commission, combining the warmth and natural character of oak veneer cabinetry with traditionally constructed solid tulipwood face frames.

The main cabinetry was produced from carefully selected veneered oak and MDF, providing the stability and precision required for fitted furniture while retaining the appearance and feel of genuine timber throughout the kitchen.

Solid American tulipwood was used for the front framing. Its fine grain, stability and excellent finishing qualities make it particularly well suited to high-end painted cabinetry, allowing the framework to achieve a beautifully smooth and refined final appearance.

The client had sourced their own chosen paint for the project, allowing the finished kitchen to be coordinated precisely with the wider interior scheme. The cabinetry was prepared and finished with particular attention to the edges, joints and detailing so that the painted surfaces complemented the natural oak elements rather than disguising the craftsmanship beneath them.

Craftsmanship

How long it took, and why

The kitchen spent approximately one month in the workshop, where the individual cabinets, frames and components were constructed and prepared ahead of installation.

A further two weeks were dedicated to fitting and painting on site, allowing the kitchen to be carefully installed, adjusted and finished within the room itself.

The result is a considered balance of natural oak and beautifully painted joinery — a kitchen designed specifically for its home rather than adapted from standard cabinetry.
